This Veterans’ Day was definitely one for the books as this year topped the last, students have said.

Student Council looked forward to “seeing the looks on students faces,” and showing their gratitude to the veterans, Student Council President Joey Cervantes said.

The assembly began at 9:20 a.m. with Chelsea Chappell and Connor Kendall in charge, as the football team and cheerleaders held up flags. It ran a bit later than expected as it ended at 11 a.m. after the Ranger song.

During the assembly, students were moved as guest speakers Alan Thompson, Sgt. Chris Fuentes, Rudy Galindo, and Army specialist Angel Munoz shared their stories. Also, Greenwood received a letter from President Donald Trump in appreciation for the nation’s heroes.

The message of the assembly was to honor and give thanks to the Veterans.
Theatre performed “Ragged Old Flag” by Johnny Cash and the color guard presented The Second Movement.

After the gathering, the veterans enjoyed a barbecue meal in the library with Student Council.

“It was a lot of fun,” Sarah Abel said after helping with Student Council.
