After teaching for 8 years in the same classroom at Greenwood, algebra teacher Renee Blakely will be retiring.

Blakely taught at Frenship for 18 years and Midland High for 3 years before coming to Greenwood.

After retirement she said how she planned to take time off and do nothing and visit her friend Barbara Cherry, who’s also retiring. She wants to do something different for a job.

To her seniors who are graduating, Blakely said, “Surround yourself with people who make you better.”

Blakely hopes she has made an impact on her students in her time here.

Some of her favorite memories here were seeing her students coming back to visit and the pep rallies.

Blakely said she felt “excited, a little scared, and sad – mixed,” about retiring.

Although she is leaving GHS, she will be staying in Midland and isn’t going to be moving away.
